The world's first bus running on biofuel using green Euglenophyta, started driving in the Japanese city of Fujisawa, reported on Tuesday, the press service of Isuzu.

Fuel for the bus developed jointly by the Japanese manufacturer of trucks and buses Isuzu and now Euglena.

"The bus makes 22 trips a day. We hope that in four years we will be able to create a technology that allows use of biofuels produced from 100% green algae. Now it accounts for 1% ", - said the spokesman.

In late June, the two companies signed an agreement on joint development of the engine and fuel from green algae, which is considered a new generation of biofuels. According to the plans, by 2018 the company expect to create technology that allows for no extra load on the engine to use biofuels, which will be 100% generated from green algae.

For diesel vehicles today is the most promising biofuels among the possible environmental substitutes for gasoline and diesel fuel, as neither hydrogen nor electricity do not solve the main problem - the ability to run a long distance without refueling. However minus biofuels still remains high engine load. If the ambitious project will be implemented, the company will be able to offer to the market a new type of biofuel, which combines all the advantages of this type of fuel.

Algae oil contains a substance, and therefore attracted the attention of scientists as a possible raw material for biofuels, in addition, it contains chlorophyll and can absorb carbon dioxide. Launch of the first charter bus on fuel from green algae is the first step towards the realization of the project.
