Lithium batteries are the next generation of smart phones allow you to work longer

A team of scientists from Stanford University (USA) offered a way to double, triple increase capacity lithium batteries are widely used in electronics, including smartphones. On their study, the researchers told the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

According to scientists, lithium remains the most promising material for anodes batteries, as it allows to reach the maximum capacity of the battery. However, the current design of batteries leads to a build-up of lithium mohobraznogo outside anodes, which may lead to deterioration of capacity characteristics of the battery, its heating and even explosion.

Stanford grad researchers suggested to isolate the anode of lithium or lithium sulfide c nanospheres using an amorphous carbon, which will improve the battery capacity without compromising the formation of structures is lithium anodes, and hence their reliability. They also expect that this approach will increase the battery life cycle by maintaining the stability of the structure of the battery longer.

According to the resource Engadget, Steven Chu (Steven Chu), a representative of the research group, has developed a new method, said that the new generation of batteries will allow smartphones to work two to three times longer than the current. In his opinion there is still extensive engineering work before these power supplies on the market.

To increase the capacity of power supply of mobile technology are numerous methods, but the timing of their introduction into the mass use of vague. For example, never reached the stage of mass production of fuel cells, which are considered to be the replacement of lithium batteries in the early 2000s. Modification of existing batteries is important, as it allows you to increase the battery capacity in the foreseeable future, albeit not as radically as alternative power sources.
