Competitor to Apple and Google in the cars will be Linux

Non-profit consortium for the development of the operating system Linux - Linux Foundation - introduced software with open source for automotive multimedia systems. Their operating systems for machines previously submitted Google (Android Auto), Apple (CarPlay) and Microsoft (Windows).

Novelty, called Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), is a distribution Linux, optimized for use in automotive applications. According to the developers, AGL is not a finished product - it is only a "frame" on the basis of which to create programs to interact with the climate system, navigation, dashboard, connected via Bluetooth external devices and other electronics.


Thanks to the "openness» AGL automakers and any third-party developers will be able to adjust the platform for themselves, changing the GUI and adding functions. AGL now supports interaction with side chains of the standard CAN, function media player with support for DLNA, as well as the creation of interfaces on HTML5 and JavaScript.

Willingness to support systems using AGL, have already expressed Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota. These automakers are involved in projects to implement into production and Android Auto CarPlay.

As "engine" of supported Fujitsu, Intel, LG, NEC, Panasonic and Samsung.
