GLONASS ground stations may appear in Nicaragua and Vietnam

The Russian government approved a bill on ratification of Nicaragua and Vietnam agreements necessary for the development of bilateral relations in the field of space activities , in particular to be installed on their territories ground stations GLONASS (GLONASS), said on Saturday the press service of the Cabinet .
Agreements provide for the installation of Nicaragua and Vietnam stations GLONASS system and are also designed to give impetus to the mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as space technology telecommunications , remote sensing , space medicine and biology.


Earlier, Russia and Vietnam signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes . The document was signed after the talks, the government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung .What is GLONASS
Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS ) is the Russian equivalent of the U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS) and can determine the location and speed of the land, sea and air targets with an accuracy of 1 meter. GLONASS deployment began in October 1982. The first GLONASS satellite was launched into orbit by the Soviet Union October 12, 1982 . September 24, 1993 the system was officially put into operation .
